Fred Alexander:

It gives me great pleasure to write these few words in support of the Muskoka Woods Experience. Muskoka is truly an extraordinary learning experience that not only supports and promotes the concept of Healthy Active Living but also contributes to the development in young people of a sense of confidence and belief in themselves that may not have been present before. In every respect it provides nourishment for body and spirit.

No one attends Muskoka without somehow experiencing a remarkable transformation that is reflected in the Muskoka motto " you do not have to be the best - you just have to do your best."

All of us as trustees on the WECDSB are strongly supportive of the Muskoka Woods Experience.

It has been a distinct privilege for me to have observed first hand the good things that happen when a group of dedicated educators known simply as "The Team", believe in a dream.

Students of Promise from all high schools within the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board were provided an intensive three-day Muskoka Woods Leadership Experience. At Muskoka Woods students participated in activities specifically designed to foster and promote teamwork, problem solving and social skills development. The students quickly learned through 'challenge by choice' that they were capable of far more than they ever imagined. Students who never met before were very supportive of each other as they participated in the variety of activities. As was said by one student "What surprised me most about this experience is that everyone here is making a real effort." The transformation that took place for some students over the course of the three days was truly remarkable. This experience is one strategy the Board using to address the 4th Pillar of the Student Success Initiative: Community, Culture and Caring.

"The Muskoka Woods Leadership Program has afforded our students an opportunity for learning on many different levels. For some it is their first trip outside of Windsor and Essex County, while for others it is their first time away from their parents/guardians. I have spoken to many of the students who have participated in the program and I continue to be overwhelmed at their enthusiasm and their gratitude for the experience. This very successful initiative has definitely made a difference in the lives of the students and staff of the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board."
