Our goal is to develop meaningful connections among our students, their teachers and the larger school community.
The focus of the SOP experience is to provide students from grades 9 to 12 with an opportunity to develop their leadership skills through physical challenges and recreation. It is designed as a multi-grade and school approach serving the needs of our young people, especially those 'at-risk'.
In addition, the experience is designed to help students develop a positive "sense of self", as well as effective decision-making, conflict resolution, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Additional rationale for this experience is reflected in the Ministry document, Choices Into Action: Guidance and Career Education Program Policy for Ontario Elementary and Secondary Schools.
"Students must learn and develop skills at school that will help them become more independent and responsible individuals."
- Students must be able to apply what they learn in school to other areas of their lives.
- Students must learn to work cooperatively and productively with a wide range of people, to set and pursue goals, to evaluate their achievement of their goals, and to assume their roles as responsible citizens.
- Students must be provided with many opportunities to practice new skills in a structured and supportive 'Christian' setting
